Is Sacramento having a moment? Big time.
Already known for its farm-to-fork food scene, the California capital received a huge helping of love with the September 2017 release of Lady Bird, a film written and directed by Sacramento native Greta Gerwig. Set in 2002, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, and Tracy Letts—and the city is on vivid display throughout.
It didn't hurt that Lady Bird received universal critical acclaim, logging the highest score in the history of Rotten Tomatoes in the process. The great reviews prompted us to create this Lady Bird tour of Sacramento, and several media brands followed our lead.
On January 7, Gerwig took the buzz to a new level after winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy. The delightfully awestruck auteur referenced Sacramento in her acceptance speech, bringing even more attention to the Gold Country hub.
The content cavalcade continues: Thrillist recently posted this in-depth piece about Sacramento's many charms—it's definitely worth a read. Also, Sacramento Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein shared his favorite local spots with us, and we strongly recommend a visit to the flourishing Midtown district.
