Monterey Jazz Festival

September 27–29, 2024

Enjoy three days of world-class jazz and more at the lauded Monterey Jazz Festival, which has been called “the grandaddy of jazz events” by the Wall Street Journal and “nothing less than jazz nirvana” and “one of the genre’s most beloved and globally praised annual events” by the San Jose Mercury News.

Founded in 1958, the September festival in Monterey features a lineup of top names, newcomers, and favorites every year—some 500 artists in all—playing 85-plus shows on five stages at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, about 70 miles south of San Jose.

Each year, the festival features a Showcase Artist, performing several times during the weekend; an Artist-in-Residence; and a Commission Artist. Past Artists-in-Residence have included Dianne Reeves, Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, and Christian McBride, to name a few. Round out your experience by attending panel discussions and intimate conversations.

How to go to the Monterey Jazz Festival

There are a few different ways to attend the festival beyond single-day passes. Get a general admission pass for the four grounds stages, which are spread out over the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Or buy a Full Weekend Arena package and you’ll lock in the same reserved Arena seat for the weekend’s daily shows on the main stage, with access to all four grounds stages. For a VIP experience, add the Premier Club pass to any ticket, and you’ll get access to a special air-conditioned lounge, closed-circuit Arena simulcasts, delicious menu options, and a top-shelf bar.

Plan your trip

It’s easy to build a whole vacation around attending the festival. Monterey is also home to don’t-miss spots including the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, the former sardine-canning area that is now lined with restaurants and shops.
