Incredibles 2 will likely triumph again at the box office this weekend, and its superhero stars will also take center stage at Disneyland Resort, as they help usher in the new Pixar Pier area, which opens on June 23 at Disney California Adventure Park.
The boardwalk-themed area of the park, formerly known as Paradise Pier, has been made over with characters and scenes from Pixar movies such as Inside Out, Coco, and the Toy Story series. The centerpiece may be the Incredicoaster (formerly California Screamin’), which has new cars, scenery, and special effects, all channeling the Incredibles family. Nearby, ride the returning Toy Story Midway Mania or the area’s giant Ferris wheel, renamed Pixar Pal-a-Round, which now features different Pixar characters on each car. The dining options also got a makeover, and now include the Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats (from Monsters, Inc.), Angry Dogs (Inside Out), and Senor Buzz Churros (Toy Story). Or, get dinner at Lamplight Lounge (replacing Ariel’s Grotto), a sit-down restaurant with adult beverages and behind-the-scenes Pixar décor like sketches and preserved concept art.
More attractions (and goodies) are on the horizon, too. In 2019, Jessie’s Critter Carousel will debut with rideable deer, raccoons, and even armadillos. And later this summer, keep an eye out for Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff, a candy shop named after the heart-yanking imaginary friend from Inside Out, and offering up Sweet Candy Tears, as well as ornately decorated candy apples and frozen drinks called Memory Refreshers (like the Rainbow Unicorn, with grape soda, blue raspberry soda, and rainbow candies).
While this weekend will be prime time for the new area, Disneyland Resort is celebrating Pixar Fest until September 3, with special nighttime shows and a variety of cool themed snacks across both Disneyland Park and California Adventure.
