What to Expect at the 10th Annual Burbank International Film Festival

With more than 200 feature and short films on tap, the annual fest celebrates filmmakers from across the globe

As the home to numerous TV and film productions and more than 1,000 entertainment companies—including giants Warner Bros. and Disney Studios—Burbank is where a lot of the movie magic happens. It’s only fitting that this media hub hosts an annual festival to showcase filmmakers from around the world (60 countries, in fact).

The 10th Annual Burbank International Film Festival starts next Wednesday, Sept. 5, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 9. More than 200 feature and short films will be screened at AMC Burbank 16, along with tributes, Q&A panels, and red carpet events.

The films range from independent full-length pictures to short comedies and documentary films. The festival kicks off with the opening night film, The Catcher Was A Spy, starring Paul Rudd, Paul Giamatti, Jeff Daniels, and Sienna Miller. The thriller is based on a true story about a professional baseball player who turned into a World War II spy.

Sci-fi fans will have ample opportunities to see both classic and new films throughout the week, but especially during Saturday’s themed “Night of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror.” In addition to premieres of movies such as White Space, about a deep space fishing vessel, the night includes a 50th anniversary screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey followed by a Q&A with actor Gary Lockwood.

For more information on the festival or to buy tickets, go to Burbank Film Festival’s website.
